The towbares are products that are Approved according to European Directive and Regulation, therefore, to pass the ITV it is necessary that all the documentation is in order, and that both the vehicle and towbar system have the appropriate Homologations. In any case, it is the ITVs that demand the documentation that we must provide based on the requirements of the Ministry of Industry. These requirements may vary from one geographical area to another, therefore, we recommend that, in case of doubt, call the nearest ITV to your home or contact our Sales Department to confirm that all the documentation is in order and that you do not need extraordinary reports or technical projects with additional costs. The 7-pole and 13-pole universal electronic kit is valid for the vast majority of vehicles, and is much cheaper and is immediately available. But we also put at your disposal the specific electronic kits for vehicles which are developed for connection without splices to the original connectors of the vehicle. The 7-pole kits allow the perfect functioning of the lighting (direction indicators, position lights, brake lights and fog lights) of a trailer or a cargo carrier. The 13-pole kits are more functional, apart from the aforementioned applications, they also have the function of the reversing light and optionally also the direct power supply from the vehicle battery, necessary for example in the case of towing a caravan (refrigerator , interior lighting, etc.). According to current regulations, all trailers and caravans registered after July 10, 2011, and with a mass greater than 750 kg, require a 13-pole kit as they need a reversing light.

In Spain, once the towbar is installed, the vehicle must pass the ITV within 15 days to legalize the reform carried out. In principle, you must provide the technical sheet of the vehicle, the installation certificate of the workshop, and the conformity report of the towbar manufacturer. There are cases in which, for various reasons, the ITVs require that the conformity report be issued by the Laboratory or Technical Service for Reforms, or other additional documentation such as a technical project. When a towbar is installed, you must always inform the insurance that a towing towbar has been installed and follow the instructions of each Company. If you are going to tow a trailer weighing less than 750 kg, you normally do not have to specify its data, but if it is more than 750 kg, it must be specifically insured as a vehicle.

With the usual class B license you can carry any trailer up to 750 kg and even more than 750 kg. You must obtain a class E driving license if the following three conditions are met: That the trailer weighs more than 750 kg of MMA, that the whole exceeds 3,500 kg of MMA, and that the MMA of the trailer exceeds the tare weight of the tractor vehicle.

In Spain, the towbars once installed must pass ITV. Trailers under 750 kg do not have to carry out any formalities, just carry the technical sheet of the trailer when circulating with it.
Trailers over 750 Kg must be registered, and pass the mandatory checks. Isothermal boxes, both those that go inside vans and those that go on chassis-trailers, must undergo a review every 6 years by an Authorized Control Body (OCA). To obtain a duplicate of the technical sheet of a trailer, you must go to the ITV, entity authorized to issue it. You can contact the nearest ITV and they will inform you of the documents you have to provide, depending on the characteristics of the trailer or caravan.
You should not drive without documentation as you can be fined and even immobilize the trailer.
